Meet the Girls

Elina Lingman

From a VERY far distance we WELCOMED Elina Lingman behind the bar. A super early rise in the morning at 03.00 am had made certain she would be available at her timeslot of the competition. A bartender from the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi – Kiruna.

The Northern frequently silent nature was not an obvious with a bubble and extroverted Elina showing up behind the bar. A constant smile and giggles took the notion of the ‘cold’ Northerners away quickly and she warmed up the panel as she entered.

Her Rhuby cocktail first out was the PPP – Pure Pink Pleasure

Pure Pink Pleasure

30ml RHUBY
10ml Bombay Gin
20ml Advocaat
10ml Licor 43
10ml Grenadine
20ml Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
Egg White
Sugar frosting on the cocktail glass rim
Dry shake all ingredients and then wet shake. Strain and pour into the cocktail glass.

Many of the entrants and even the winner in 2012 used egg in their concoction with Rhuby, giving it a textured and smooth finish with a delicate foaming head. The addition of Advocaat gave an even thicker experience to the drink with a full mouth and a slightly sweet finish.

The simple pink frosting with the delicate pink colour of drink was simple and yet effective. The areas marking Elina down was mainly a short serve and the slightly complex use of ingredients. The bartender duo felt some may have been unnecessary – while questioned the lack of measuring the quantities. Free-pour is a major skill and potentially one to avoid with a judging panel in front of you if not needing to showcase major skillset.

Elina felt slightly puzzled with her Classic Mai-Tai while after having received simple instructions she had no challenge to mix it up. However the Classic is in true terms a real Classic and made the judges surprised she had never tasted one in her life before.

The wonderful personality and straight forward commentary made her feel honest and truthful behind the bar – indicating a confidence and no hustle approach. Certainly a person that would not feel overwhelmed but instead simply take each order as it came in and work to the best of ability.

Her signature for demonstrating skill and personal preference did not surprise as it came across as the freezing cold concoction most likely served very well at the Ice Hotel – Green Envy. With a string green shine it had the impact where you could imaging the blue lit-up ice bars and the effect was startling and impactful. Flavour and balance did not gain the same high scores as name and innovation.

Young and not seemingly scared to learn more and to listen Elina may be a name we see a lot more of as we progress forward.
