Meet the Girls
Ida Kruth is a name many in the industry has come across and her more strict personality has been seen many of times in the high end competition scenarios. As the only woman on stage at the national bartender SM in Sweden this year – she was a welcome finalist in PYD. Ida arrived from an early morning flight out of Östersund, where she represents the Clarion Hotel.
Ida explained her non-love for the winter coming in soon so her naming was meant to hold onto those lovely memories of summer, while knowing we were about to enter autumn.
Bittersweet Summer Love
1cl Sourz redberry
1cl Bacardi limon
3cl Cranberry Juice
2cl Her own freshly squeezed Lemon Juice (also including sugar and egg white)
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Garnish: Sugar frosted Cherry (on image strawberry as we had a challenge to gain ingredient)
Shake and strain over crushed ice
Glassware: Tall Glass
Having had the pleasure to taste and see some of Ida’s previous competitions she kept to her traditional style of tall, fresh and deliciously balanced. A drink most would call the typical Rhuby spring and summer concoction as they first were introduced to the brand. Something the Rhuby rhubarb lends itself to as an obvious. With the additional skill of Ida Kruth it should become a summer classic being sipped on most piazzas.
Ida held up her product selections clearly while did not say much about the heritage of background of the categories, historical. Although her very pleasant and professional manner she was penalised slightly for the less friendly customer service. This often comes down to nerves when it is hard to execute under such pressure and remember how to smile and give small-talk as one does so. The words written down from the panel were, experienced, confident, skilled, good technique. All the things greatly associated with a great bartender. The one aspect people had noted was a smile or a chat where they could see more of her personality. The bartender duo loved the fact of double straining.
Her Classic she knew and created without fuzz – a Manhattan she called Sweet Rhuby Manhattan. A true professional behind the bar, thinking quickly on her feet.
Her concoction the Red Scuba was a short drink which would most likely have been served in a Martini cup. Ida chose to serve in the cocktail cup, while with the cooling base where she had minus point for not placing ice.
